Day 8 – Livigno

Day Eight: 15/02/23

Resting Heart Rate: 82bpm

Blood Saturation: 92

Big sleep in and rest day needed today. My muscles are screaming. I’m so sore I can barely move!

At 11am I got up and kitted up. I took the Mottolino lift up to 2300m for lunch and a snowboard. It’s awesome up there, I could have just sat there all day and watched the skiers and snowboarders on the jumps at the fun/pro park!

Day 7 – Livigno

  Day Seven: 14/02/23

Resting Heart Rate: 62bpm

Blood Saturation: 94

Big day today. Not so much in numbers/stats however I worked really hard. I ascended up the steep ski slopes for 2hrs, pushing through burning muscles, altitude headache and blisters etc. I got to the top and felt satisfied that I’d had a solid workout. The slopes are so steep that I spend most of the time stepping sideways, one foot just over the other, then switched sides. It was too steep to just toe into the snow, the calf muscles would burn after just a few steps. I tried the duck walk on the shallow sections. In any case, the 500 metres of vertical climbing was solid and demanding on my muscles, lungs, ankles and lower back.

Day 6 – Livigno

Day Six: 13/02/23

Resting Heart Rate: 70bpm

Blood Saturation: 93

Finally, a good day! Yes, I still have a tiny bit of pain in my ankle however it’s only when I really think about it and focus on it. I’m a little out of practice when it comes to packing for a hike in the snow. After an hour of getting my bag and clothing right, I hit the slopes at 8:30am with my backpack, ice axe and crampons. I had no real intentions today except to explore and enjoy the nature while focusing a little on technique. My Garmin stats say the average temperature was -9 degrees!

It was a super enjoyable hike but quite demanding on the untrained muscles in the soft snow. I started with climbing, then went across the mountain and back down to the hotel, the walk directly down the mountain was probably the toughest as I was sinking into the snow, deeper than my knees – lots of energy required to lift the legs out of those deep snow step holes.

Really nice morning, I took my Mum down to Aquagranda to sit in the sun and read a book while I had a nice one hour swim. Unfortunately my Garmin didn’t work – it recorded time buy nothing else Errrrrr. I’ve slipped out of the habit of counting laps since relying on my Garmin!

Delwyn (Mum) & Wazza (Bro)

So, after my ankle joint injection last night I had a relaxing sightseeing day and spent some time with my family (Mother and Brother). We sang, we danced and enjoyed some nice food. We also checked out all the different ski slopes and chatted with some mountain guides about my training coming up. We also found the place where we can hire snow mobiles to cruise around a 20km circuit for a bit of fun. I would also like to break my training up a little later on with a Paraglide around Livigno.
