Competition
Moving to Europe
The time has come again, I’m packing my bags to head home to Europe and I’m looking forward to getting there!
I stayed in Australia a little longer this year to spend more time training in the nice weather and to compete at the Oceania Championships.
The Oceania Championships were held in Shepparton, Victoria yesterday (19th March). The race was a little as expected, pretty flat and not too aggressive. Shara Gillow was in a class of her own and it was as if no one else really existed, the only attacks that were threatening were those from Shara but it wasn’t until the last lap when she decided to continue riding away with one other rider- who she dropped on the final climb about 5km from the finish.
Top Start in Qatar
The start to my international season of 2011 couldn’t have been much better! I won the first stage in Qatar and took the yellow leaders jersey, and to top off the day- I also held the points jersey!
I had mixed feelings of tiredness and excitement on the way to Qatar, I had just finished a demanding Australian summer season of racing and I was feeling physically and mentally exhausted from the travel and competition. On the other hand, I was on my way to the first international race of 2011 and I was about to meet up with my European team-mates for the first time this year.

Rendition Homes Santos Women’s Cup
Two podium finishes for the Honda Dream Team at the Rendition Homes Santos Women’s Cup.
The Honda Dream Team made a late decision to add the Women’s TDU support event to our race schedule with the ambition to promote the race- hoping for an official Tour Down Under event in the years to come.
It was a great opportunity to race on Sunday afternoon at Rymil Park in front of thousands of spectators who were gathering to watch the team’s presentation of the men’s TDU.
We raced in Adelaide as a team of 4; Megan Dunn, Tiffany Cromwell, Peta Mullens and myself. Josephine Tomic and Melissa Hoskins were unable to compete due to track commitments.
On day one of the two day event we raced really well until the final meters of the sprint where I lost the race for our team ?. I was positioned well with 200m to go but unfortunately I underestimated the power and speed of Chloe Hosking who jumped early on the opposite side of the road. I knew the line wasn’t far away and the race was lost. I finished 2nd.
Bay Classic 2011
Wow, the Bay Crits went exceptionally well – we never expected to pull off another dream result!
Our Honda Dream Team for the 4 day series was; Megan Dunn, Tiffany Cromwell, Melissa Hoskins, Peta Mullens and myself. We had such a great time together in Geelong!!
We won the first 3 stages and held the Sprint and Leaders Jersey from start to finish, it was just unbelievable.
I guess there’s not too much more to report, we had a great time and we were all fit and healthy. We achieved another goal for this summer!
We, the Honda Dream Team have one more goal, the Tour Down Under Women’s Santos 2 Day Criterium series to be held this Sunday and Monday the 16th & 17th of January.
More after the Tour Down Under events.
