Moving to Europe

The time has come again, I’m packing my bags to head home to Europe and I’m looking forward to getting there!

I stayed in Australia a little longer this year to spend more time training in the nice weather and to compete at the Oceania Championships.

The Oceania Championships were held in Shepparton, Victoria yesterday (19th March). The race was a little as expected, pretty flat and not too aggressive. Shara Gillow was in a class of her own and it was as if no one else really existed, the only attacks that were threatening were those from Shara but it wasn’t until the last lap when she decided to continue riding away with one other rider- who she dropped on the final climb about 5km from the finish.

The results were 1) Shara Gillow 3hr 14min 47sec. 2) Bridie O’Donnell + 50sec. 3) Chloe McConville +1min.

I won the bunch sprint for 4th. It was a slightly disappointing result for me. I felt very fit and healthy on the day with a strong feeling but unfortunately was unable to do much with it. In saying that- Shara was a deserving winner- Well Done!

So, now I’m off to Europe on another Qantas flight from Sydney to Venice via London. I’ve had my house in Italy professionally cleaned, gasolio all topped up, heated floors turned on and the driveway cleared of snow ready for my arrival after 6 months away!

I’ll enjoy a week at home in Italy before packing my bags again and departing for the month of April on the road, during April I’ll race 14 days in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg. Then I’ll return to my home in Italy for another 6 days before departing for China…. It’s going to be another busy year!

My next race will be the Tour of Flanders World Cup on the 3rd of April.
