Giro D’italia Starts Today!

On Friday the 29th of June, team Faren Honda will take to the line at the 2012edition of the Giro d’Italia Donne.

As one of the most prestigious races on the Women’s UCI calendar, all the top teams will have targeted this week’s Giro d’Italia Feminine including Italy’s successful UCI team, Faren Honda.

At the beginning of the season, the Giro Donne was identified as one of Team Faren Honda’s targeted races and a specific team was hand selected by management in order to achieve their goals in this year’s event.

Lining up in Napoli for Team Faren Honda will be 5 times Giro d’Italia winner and local hero Fabiana Luperini. Her past experience and impressive track record at the event will prove an invaluable tool for the team as Luperini will be looking to make a major impact on the race as it moves into the mountain stages.

The 2012 edition will only present one or two potential bunch finishes and this is where the team will look to Rochelle Gilmore (AUS) to represent team Faren Honda as she has come in to exceptional form over the past months.

Current Olympic Champion Nicole Cooke (GBR) will also be present on the start line in Napoli. Nicole’s aggressive racing style and strength as an all rounder could see her pull off another stage win as she did last year with an impressive stage win in Verona at the 2011 Giro d’Italia.

Supporting the team’s lead riders will be newly crowned Swiss National champion Jennifer Hohl, and the Russian National champion Yulia Blindyuk. Other riders rounding out the team will be; the team’s latest signing Gracie Elvin from Australia, Myfanwy Galloway also from Australia and Giuseppina Grassi from Mexico.

The team’s overall strength will see Faren Honda capable of achieving results during this year’s Giro d’Italia. However, the team will take the race by day….

The Giro d’Italia Donne will start today on the 29th of June in Napoli and finish in Bergamo on the 7th of July. The race will cover an approximate total distance of 1000km during 9 days.
