Roeselare Result and Luxembourg Preview

Roeselare

Roeselare

Last Sunday’s race in Roeselare was fun; it was a tough race which I handled very well. I’m climbing a lot better this year so I can hold position at the front of the bunch-I don’t have to rely on team mates and chasers to bring me back to the front of the race, it’s nice to already be there!

One rider (Amber Neben) had broken away with 20km to go and won the race by 36 seconds, so I was in the race for 2nd…..

I was feeling fresh coming into the finish and paying close attention to where Kirsten Wild was positioned, she was the one to beat in the sprint. It’s always a gamble to concentrate on one rider and I’ve lost a little sleep over last Sunday’s decision. I was positioned on the right wheel coming into the sprint but in the 2nd last corner, 2 riders got a gap and held onto it for the podium positions! They were also known sprinters; Emma Johansson and Adrie Visser. I kicked off Kirsten’s wheel with 100m to go for 4th. It was another ok result but perhaps my mentality or lack of initiative let me down, not my legs- and that’s the frustrating part!

I was back home in Italy on Monday morning after 3 weeks of staying in hotel rooms- it was so nice to sleep in my own bed again! It was a short stay; I’m flying to Luxembourg today for a weekend of racing!

Luxembourg starts with a fun 5km flat city time trial tonight at 8pm. There are no UCI points or use of TT equipment so I can’t imagine that many (any) riders will take it very seriously. It’s compulsory to start so I’ll just ride in an easy gear and stay relaxed.

There are two UCI 1.1 races on Saturday and Sunday- they both look very hilly so I don’t really know what to expect. I’m not exactly expecting a result or podium but I’d like to push myself for good training! I’m nearly always optimistic, as you never know what could happen.

Saturday 30th. 2.30pm. UCI 1.1 Garnich G.D. Luxembourg. 114.3km.

Sunday 1st: 2pm. UCI 1.1 Mamer D.D. Luxembourg. 110.9km

I’ll get back to you with a report next week when I return to Italy/Home again!
