Luperini solidifies her lead as best Italian rider at the Girod’Italia

Faren Honda’s Fabiana Luperini looked comfortable as she crossed the line in 7th position in today’s 4th stage of the Giro d’Italia Femminile.

Team Faren Honda was placed under attack early on in the race as numerous rival teams were out to make amends from the destruction which took place out on the road during yesterday’s 3rd stage.

A small break of 10 riders slipped clear 25kms into the 98 kilometre race and it was left to the teams of the current tour leader Evelyn Stevens “Specialised Lululemon” and team “Faren Honda” to bring back the break which threatened to disrupt the general classification. The two teams determinedly spearheaded the peloton to successfully bring back the break heading into the major climb of the day.

Team Faren Honda on track as Tour heads to the Mountains

In the scorching temperatures of 38-40 degrees, Team Faren Honda agreed that it was crucial to conserve energy in Rome during the 7.2km Individual Time Trial today, which passed right by the Coliseum. Whilst the team does not boast any specific time-trial specialist, the fact that the Giro d’Italia Femminile greets its first mountain stage tomorrow in Montecatini was weighing heavily in their minds.
Kicking off at 10am, the ITT saw the riders racing against the clock through Rome’s town centre. An undulating and technical course took them on a scenic tour of the Coliseum however there was no time to enjoy the view as the pressure for performances in the coming stages deterred any distractions or a lapses of concentration.

As the roads turn skywards, the team will look to support specialist climber Fabiana Luperini as her recentperformances have indicated that she will be a serious threat to the overall general classification. Fabiana won a mountain stage in Trentino solo, just two weeks ago!

A largely uneventful day on the road was animated by an extremely fast paced neutral section through the cobbled streets of Napoli. The nervous peloton soon settled into a calm comfortable pace for the majority of the race before charging into a furiously fast and chaotic sprint to the line in Terracina.

An untimely shoe mechanical in the neutral section of the race saw Australian rider Myfanwy Galloway pulling her foot from her shoe as she tried to stay with the bunch. Thankfully, the bunch eased as a few riders were let move off the front and she was able to head back to the team car where the mechanic strapped her foot into her shoe with electrical tape.
