Riding the Rollers

Riding the rollers makes you pedal smoothly, improves your handling, core strength and reaction time. You can do almost any training session on rollers that you can do on a trainer, but with an extra bit of spice. Yet many riders still find the thought of them somewhat daunting.

Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Rochelle Gilmore swears by rollers. Here she tells us how to get started and once you’ve mastered the art, some training plans and tricks to make you a black belt.

Gilmore invites cyclists to Big Canberra Bike Ride

Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Honda Dream Team leader, Rochelle Gilmore is inviting Canberra residents to join her in the Big Canberra Bike Ride on Canberra Day, Monday 14 March 2011.

“Canberra is a great place to ride a bike and the Big Canberra Bike Ride provides a good opportunity for riders at all levels to enjoy the autumn sunshine and get out for a ride with myself and other professional cyclists.

“I welcome Canberra’s novice riders, experienced cyclists and everyone in between to join me on 14 March. The Big Canberra Bike Ride incorporates four routes of different lengths, offering something for riders at all levels,” Gilmore said.

Honda and Gilmore support Parra Pedal

Honda Dream Team leader and Commonwealth Games cycling gold medallist, Rochelle Gilmore is supporting the Amy Gillett Foundation’s Parra Pedal event on Western Sydney’s cycle-ways on Sunday, 13 February 2011.

Gilmore said the event was an excellent opportunity to introduce new riders to cycling and a chance for more experienced cyclists to join a mass participation ride with others at their level.

“The Parra Pedal event is a great way to get active and discover Western Sydney’s cycleways with family and friends,” Gilmore said. “Cycling is great exercise, fun and social and it provides a low-emission transport alternative.”

Honda Dream Team wins all at Jayco Bay Classic

The Honda Dream Team has taken a clean sweep at this year’s Bay Cycling Classic, with reigning champion, Rochelle Gilmore winning the overall title and the team also winning the sprinters and teams classifications.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist and leader of the Honda Dream Team, Gilmore won the overall Bay Classic title for the third time after taking two of the four stages.

“I’m so proud of the Honda Dream Team. Everything just comes together with these girls, we’re a really tight unit. It’s a great feeling to have achieved everything here, the yellow jersey, the sprint jersey and the teams classification.”
