I’m not usually satisfied with finishing in the second group but this time I have to be, I was actually quite content with the feeling I had today. I raced cautiously and conservatively after having so much time off the bike.

Dutch racing is known to be brutal and today was no exception. Cervelo controlled the race and made it very hard in the cross winds, I found myself in the front group each time there was a split but unfortunately my body is not familiar with the pain that was required to stay there.

I was comfortable riding in the second group and coped with the racing much better than expected. I’ve taken confidence from my feeling today, I haven’t lost too much fitness and it shouldn’t be long until my power is back.

We had Veronica in the front group of about 20 but she was unable to attack the fast train of Cervelo in the final km’s.

I’ll be happy to get through tomorrow’s race and return home to Italy with two solid days of racing in the legs!
